Minutes of the meeting of 9/24/15
Meeting Opened at: 4:15pm
Select Board Members Present: Scott Jenssen, Chairperson, Kenn Basler and Steve Weisz
Also in attendance for parts of the meeting: Shawn Tryon and Steve Wilber of ADW Concrete
At 4:15pm the Board opened bids for the Transfer Station Phase I Cast in Place Concrete. A motion was made, seconded and passed unanimously to waive the reading of the invitation to bid legal notice. The following bids were received:
- New England Infrastructure: $380,000 with a $19,000 (5%) bid bond
- Caracas: $335,000 with a $16,750 bid bond
- ADW: $204,968 + $12,000 allowance and a $10,248 bid bond
It was discussed that the bids received were much higher than we expected based on preliminary estimates received of $160,000. It was suggested that all bids be refused and it be put out to bid again but was noted if this was done, concrete wouldn’t be able to be poured until spring. Kenn suggested that in doing this Shawn should also call the low bidder and see if he can adjust his bid lower; Steve and Shawn did not think this was legal. It was also suggested that some design changes could be made to cut the amount of concrete needed. Director of Operations, Shawn Tryon will review the bids and make a recommendation to the Board on Monday.
A motion was made and unanimously approved to adjourn the meeting at: 4:35pm
